Electronic information exchange at sea – Foundation of the Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium

On 8 February 2019, the Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium (MCC) was founded during the conference “e-navigation underway international 2019”. In a ceremonial act Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Hahn, member of the board of OFFIS – Institut für Informatik, signed the joint declaration of the nine consortium partners. The goal of this consortium is the international and cross-project coordination and development of the Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP).

The MCP is an open and manufacturer-neutral technology and combines current Internet standards with existing and future navigation and transport systems in civil maritime shipping. The MCP offers an infrastructure for an efficient, secure, reliable and seamless electronic exchange of information between operators at sea by using established communication systems. It offers special services for identity management and service management, such as the IMO concept of Maritime Services. The MCP supports actors to use digital services for the exchange of public and private information.

Francis Zachariae, general secretary of the IALA, holds the ceremonial introduction.

In Europe, OFFIS has been involved in two major projects since 2015, EfficienSea 2 and Sea Traffic Management that contributed significantly to the creation of the MCP. There are also further developments in the major South Korean SMART Navigation project. At present almost 100 organizations are using test instances of the MCP in various projects. The Maritime Connectivity Platform Consortium acts as a coordinator for the provision of guidelines and standards. The MCP takes over the open structure of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Interested organisations are welcome to join the consortium and contribute with their visions and competences. The consortium was supported by the non-commercial organisation OFFIS – Institute for Information Technology, Germany; KRISO, Republic of Korea; RISE, Sweden; University of Copenhagen, Denmark and General Lighthouse Authorities of UK and Ireland, the Danish Swedish Shipping Authorities (DMA and SMA ) and the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea (MOF). Prof. Axel Hahn explains together with SMA and MOF that “the MCP can become an important framework for the digitisation of the maritime sectors, for example in the fields of E-Navigation, SMART Shipping & Maritime Logistics, Sea Traffic Management (STM) and Autonomous Shipping”.

e-Navigation Underway 2019

The 9th edition of the e-Navigation Underway International conference will take place from February 6th to 8th 2019 and focus on implementation of e-navigation solutions. The conference is a recurring event, which will bring together international e-navigation experts from all over the world.

The 2019 conference theme will be “Paving the Way for a Digital Maritime World” and focus on the benefits and barriers when implementing e-navigation technologies.

Again in 2019 the conference will take place on board the PEARL SEAWAYS departing from Copenhagen to Oslo and back.

Meet us on board, Session 4 – Cyber Security

Welcome on 28.11.2018 to the event: Development of digital maritime systems + services

Implementing your ideas and projects is often not as difficult as expected – with the right partners. Our event is aimed equally at users, service providers and manufacturers of digital maritime services and products. Identify new ways to implement your ideas!

Under the motto “Development of digital maritime systems and services”, OFFIS is organising a supporting programme aimed equally at users, service providers and manufacturers of digital maritime services and products and is initiating the exchange of experiences on an interdisciplinary level. In particular, we would like to address small and medium-sized enterprises with innovative ideas in order to offer you the opportunity to network and identify possibilities for implementing your ideas.

With our offer, we would like to support you in further developing your own technologies and markets, for example for digital maritime systems and services, and in establishing and exploiting synergies in the industry. We attach great importance to the concrete applicability of current technological developments.

As small and medium-sized enterprises, we address users, service providers and manufacturers alike who are interested in advancing their ideas in concrete new projects and profiting from science and experience in neighbouring fields of technology.

Beside an overview by exciting guest lectures about maritime system development and its permission the testbed eMIR is introduced to the participants at OFFIS. In the testbed they will have the opportunity to discover the prototypical developments of maritime assistance systems and to ask questions.

Afterwards there will be time for parallel workshops during the World Cafe´ with your own special topics on market developments as well as technology development to introduce and exchange ideas. The results of the jointly developed product and engineering roadmaps will then be presented and further developed into possible projects in individual discussions. Afterwards there will be the opportunity to network.

The event will take place in cooperation with embeteco GmbH & Co. KG, as well as partners from the industry and ship classification society.

Participation is free of charge.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Oldenburg!

Please reserve the date today and register for the event

eMIR Industry Days 26th – 27th APRIL 2018

eMIR Industry Days 2018

At the eMIR Industry Days in Hamburg on 26 and 27 April 2018, international experts discussed the development of secure systems for eNavigation with an excellent view of the lively shipping traffic in front of the St. Pauli landing bridges.

On the first day OFFIS board member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Hahn opened the event. The participating industrial companies, research institutions and authorities exchanged views on new technologies for highly automated maritime systems. The main topics were system engineering, safety and security, verification and validation, high automation, artificial intelligence and technology development platforms.

The second day was dedicated to the development of a technology roadmap for safe maritime systems. This roadmap will be further developed by the NMMT Working Group on Civil Maritime Security for presentation at the Status Conference on Maritime Technologies in December and as input for the European research programmes this summer.

Opening of the eMIR test field by the partners of the Actress project

The evening event at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency was the ideal opportunity to open the eMIR test field with its virtual and physical test environments by the partners of the ACTRESS project. The manifold points of contact and possibilities of use of eMIR have aroused great interest.

You can follow the eMIR Industry Days 2018 programme of the event again.

Many thanks to our partners and guests for the successful eMIR Industry Days 2018.

On board , e-Navigation Underway 2018
